Bush kinder – Growth and Potential

Keynote Synopsis

Childhood In Practice

"Let me tell you a story" Workshop

Nature provides the content and materials to build the most wonderful stories.
Telling stories to children can be a powerful way to engage them in the exploration of complex personal and social issues.
In this workshop, participants will listen to some beautiful stories and learn simple techniques to create their own meaningful stories.

Notes –
Participants may be required to spend some time exploring in nature and sitting on the ground. Appropriate clothing should be worn.

Listen to the story of bush kinder and the growth of the bush kindergarten movement from founder Doug Fargher.
In Victoria alone there are hundreds of bush kinders and other nature based programs operating, and the number is rapidly growing. This is not surprising. Evidence informs us that children who spend more time outdoors in nature are happier, healthier, stronger, smarter, kinder and more social.

Moreover, bush kinders are not only supporting the children who access them they are also benefitting the community. Governments and agencies have moved to enable the growth of the movement. There remains however; enormous potential for key decision makers to tie in with the bush kinder success and invest in the demand for sustained growth.
